Trouble changing the filter on your Samsung fridge? How to fix it quick! - Filter Flair

If you have found this blog then it seems your having difficulty changing your Samsung water filter. Unfortunately, if your new Samsung DA29-00003G, Samsung Aqua-Pure Plus DA29-00003G or DA29-00003F fridge filter won't fit then you're one of the many people to be faced with the frustrating issue, and the majority of the time it's through no fault of your own.

It's one of the most common reasons customers contact us here at Filter Flair for support, so we've put together this guide explaining why it's such a common issue and what steps you can take to try and resolve it.

First of all, let's dig into why this is an issue in the first place.

If we go back a few years, there were two main internal filters for Samsung refrigerators on the market: the Samsung Aqua-Pure DA29-00003G and the Samsung Aqua-Pure DA29-00003F. These filters were designed to fit different refrigerator models, and therefore had different locking mechanisms.

Samsung Aqua-Pure Plus Filter Locking Mechanisms

Around 2018, Samsung introduced a new filter to the market for Samsung refrigerators which was designed to replace the older Aqua-Pure G/F models, reducing the number of options for many Samsung refrigerator owners down to just one filter. Strangely, this new design was still named the Samsung DA29-00003G, however the locking mechanism closely resembles the original Aqua-Pure DA29-00003F filter locking mechanism, although it’s slightly thicker.

This newer model is what is currently sold by Samsung despite the image being that of the older Aqua-Pure DA29-00003G (we have test purchased this)! Although this new Samsung DA29-00003G *should* be cross-compatible (as advised by Samsung), unfortunately in many cases it's either very difficult to fit or not compatible at all without breaking the filter housing.

Fortunately, here at Filter Flair we supply each model so you can be confident of getting the right filter for your refrigerator.

The best way to prevent any difficulty installing your new filter is to check the filter you currently have installed and match it against the one you are purchasing. If you are still unsure, contact one of our team with your refrigerator model number, and we can advise which model is correct for your fridge.

If you are sure you have purchased the correct filter and are still having issues, then please read below for

Installing a new Samsung filter after previously using a different or compatible filter.

If you are trying to install your new Samsung filter after previously using a compatible model from a non-Samsung brand, you may need to follow some simple steps before installing your new filter. This is because the locking mechanism within the filter housing may need to be reset to ensure the new filter can fit in correctly.

Follow these steps before installing the new filter:

  1. Insert the old filter up into the housing and twist clockwise to fix it firmly into the locked position.
  2. Once this is done, twist the filter anticlockwise to unlock the filter whilst maintaining upward pressure, and ensure you twist it as far as possible to completely open the locking mechanism.
  3. Allow the filter to drop out of the housing.
  4. Install the new, genuine filter. This may take slightly more force than usual first time round.

Followed the steps and still not able to install your filter?

A commonly reported issue is a clear plastic cap that is found inside the filter housing. Without knowing to look, you would never expect it however this may be the reason your filter isn't inserting all the way into the socket.

If you have purchased the correct model and tried all the steps above without success then please get in touch with us so we can help resolve your issue.
