They need a dedicated anion-exchange media designed specifically for this job – which is exactly what this cartridge         \n  contains.\u003c\/p\u003e   \n                                                                                                                                                    \n  \u003ch3\u003eHow it works\u003c\/h3\u003e\n  \u003cp\u003eThe tannin cartridge is packed with a tannin-selective anion-exchange resin. As water flows through the cartridge, the resin attracts the\n  negatively charged tannin molecules and exchanges them for chloride ions, leaving water visibly clearer and free of the earthy taste tannins      \n  cause.\u003c\/p\u003e\n                                                                                                                                                    \n  \u003ch3\u003eSingle-stage vs two-stage – which do you need?\u003c\/h3\u003e                                                                                           \n  \u003cp\u003eThis single housing is the simpler, more economical setup of the two whole-house tannin systems we offer. It's ideal in two situations:\u003c\/p\u003e\n  \u003cul\u003e                                                                                                                                              \n    \u003cli\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003eClean supplies with a tannin issue:\u003c\/strong\u003e if your borehole or spring water is otherwise low in sediment and iron, the tannin\n  cartridge can do its job without a pre-filter ahead of it.\u003c\/li\u003e                                                                                   \n    \u003cli\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003eAdding to an existing setup:\u003c\/strong\u003e if you already have sediment or iron filtration in place, this single housing is a clean way\n  to bolt a tannin stage onto your existing system.\u003c\/li\u003e                                                                                            \n  \u003c\/ul\u003e           \n  \u003cp\u003eIf your supply has visible sediment or sand alongside the tannin discolouration, the two-stage version with a 5-micron sediment pre-filter is a\n   better choice – it'll significantly extend the life of the tannin cartridge.\u003c\/p\u003e                                                                 \n   \n  \u003ch3\u003eImportant – will this work on your supply?\u003c\/h3\u003e                                                                                               \n  \u003cp\u003eTannin cartridges work brilliantly when matched to the right water, but they're more sensitive to feed water conditions than sediment or carbon\n   filters. Before ordering, please consider:\u003c\/p\u003e                                                                                                   \n  \u003cul\u003e\n    \u003cli\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003eHard water:\u003c\/strong\u003e calcium and magnesium foul tannin resin and shorten its working life dramatically. If your supply is hard, we'd\n   recommend installing a water softener upstream of this system.\u003c\/li\u003e                                                                              \n    \u003cli\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003eIron and manganese:\u003c\/strong\u003e high levels of either will also coat and disable the resin. These are best dealt with by a dedicated\n  iron filter ahead of the tannin stage.\u003c\/li\u003e                                                                                                       \n    \u003cli\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003eChlorine:\u003c\/strong\u003e tannin resins handle low to moderate chlorine, but heavily chlorinated supplies should be carbon-filtered\n  first.\u003c\/li\u003e                                                                                                                                       \n    \u003cli\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003eTannin level:\u003c\/strong\u003e cartridge life depends entirely on how much tannin is in your water.
